It is always a pleasant surprise when a non-muslim touches on a piece of theological wisdom or insight and their view correlates with the islamic view on that matter.
In this case C.S.Lewis the author of The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe (or the Narnia Saga if you will) who explains it quite succinctly. You don’t have a soul, You are a Soul, you have a body. This is exactly how it is described. We start out as souls (as the hadeeth says) waiting to be deployed to earth to fight the fight and struggle the struggle of existance.. this test that is called Life lasts for but a few decades… from 50 to 100 years.
The truth is that we were created thousands of years before we are given our bodies and we existed as souls awaiting to be dispatched to earth. Once the time for our test expires we will still exist as souls though are bodies expire and we will remain in purgatory (barzakh) until the time comes when Allah commands Israpheal to blow the horn.
This life is but the second stage of existence… we will still have to go through death, purgatory (the islamic one), resurrection, waiting for Judgment, Judgment and then Heaven or Hell.
To those unfortunate few Muslims who’s faith was correct but who’s actions were found wanting… they will be cleansed in the hellfire then be given their final place of residence in heaven inshallah. So for them they will need to experience one stage more than anyone else.
And Allah Knowns Best
